Class List 2020 – John Kenny

John is being inducted into the Class of 2020 as an inspirational coach who took Scotland to their best ever place in the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships in Denver.

John was Head Coach of the Scotland Men’s Squad from 2007 – 2014. Space does not allow the inclusion of his full C.V. A very abbreviated record of his coaching career with Scotland is listed below:

2008 European Championships Lahti, Finland Record Division Champions 2010 British Nationals Championships Record 4th Place
2010 World Championships (Manchester, England Record 7th Place
2014 World Championships (Denver USA) Record 6th place. Blue Division
7 of the Scotland Squad were selected to World Championships President’s Teams
4 Players selected to All European Games Team of Honour International Record 24-8

John was also was an evaluator & clinician for the 2008 and 2012 Lacrosse Scotland U-19 Squad and successfully advocated for the Lacrosse Scotland try outs for World Championships to be held in Scotland.

In addition John voluntarily undertook to do significant coaching to develop Scotland’s domestic men’s teams.

Examples include:

  •  Assisted in the introduction of The Fall Brawl (clinic and competition) for Scotland Universities.
  •  Assisted in the establishment of a men’s lacrosse programme at the Mearns Castle High School in Glasgow.
  • Instituted an annual Lacrosse Scotland /Manchester tour between Lacrosse Scotland and local Manchester teams.
  • Conducted player clinics in Glasgow, Stirling, St. Andrews, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
  • Presented at a series of coaching clinics for Scotland University club players and coaches.
