Home Internationals 2023

23 April 2023

The annual Home Internationals took place in Nottingham last weekend (22-23 April). Lacrosse Scotland had a very strong showing throughout our teams. Scotland had teams competing in the Men’s Division, Women’s Division, U21 Women’s Division, and U18 Women’s Division.

Our U18 Women had an outstanding weekend in, what was for most of the team, their first international tournament. The team started the tournament with a very competitive match vs the host England, in which Anna Hutchinson was sensational in the draw circle, earning game MVP from the team. On Sunday, the U18s took on Wales, resulting in a 14-3 win for Scotland. The team played together throughout, and played extremely well throughout the tournament.

The U21 Women also had a great showing over the tournament. Similar to the U18 team, the U21 Women played very well against England, fighting to the very end. The team brought the same fight to their match against Wales, in which the team played strong on both sides of the field, and came away with a 14-6 win. The team, along with the U18 Women, is building towards the U21 European Championship in July, in Prague.

The Women’s team had a very successful weekend at Home Internationals. The Women began their tournament against Wales, and had an incredible game by all, resulting in a 15-4 win by Scotland. The win against Wales also secured the Patterson Cup for Scotland, which is the trophy awarded to the winner of the Home Internationals Women’s fixture between Scotland and Wales. On Sunday, Scotland took on England, and came out very strong, and the Scots played hard throughout the game, showing extreme promise, as the team builds towards next year’s European Championship, and the World Cup in 2026.

Our Men’s team continued to build towards the World Cup in San Diego this summer, getting stronger and growing together throughout the weekend. Although the scoreboard did not favour the Scots, the team had a very productive weekend. Peter Ross led the way scoring five times throughout the weekend, including 4 goals against Wales. Wishing our Men the best of luck as they continue to work towards the upcoming World Cup.
