Term: The term runs for three years (eligible for re-election).
Start date: May 2023 (following AGM).
Commitment: monthly board meetings, quarterly workshop days, attendance at AGMs and regular meetings/events with sponsors and committees.
Payment: This is a volunteer position and is unpaid.
Re-election year: May 2026 (Voted onto board by Lacrosse Scotland Membership at the AGM).
Expenses: reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the Lacrosse Scotland Expense policy.

Role Purpose
Lacrosse Scotland is the national governing body for the sport of lacrosse in Scotland and is responsible for promoting, developing and governing the sport at all levels throughout the country. Lacrosse Scotland provides opportunities for players, coaches, officials and enthusiasts to engage with the sport, fostering growth and creating a vibrant, strong and inclusive lacrosse community in Scotland.
As Lacrosse Scotland continues to grow across all ages and levels, the Chair of Lacrosse Scotland will continue to work with the strategic plan, board members, staff, and membership to continue to cultivate and develop the sport, setting the tone and future ambitions for the organisation, particularly in the build up to the Olympics in 2028. This includes managing relations with key stakeholders including members, clubs, sportscotland, English Lacrosse Association, sponsors, ELF and FIL whilst continuing to create a sense of unity and collaboration.
Responsibilities
The Chair is an Officer of the Board and a Non-Executive Director, appointed in accordance with the Articles of Association and responsible for overseeing and managing all accounts operated by the Company.
- Provide effective leadership of the Board and the affairs of Lacrosse Scotland.
- Support the delivery and development of Lacrosse Scotland’s strategic plans with Strategy Director.
- Ensure the governance of Lacrosse Scotland is efficient, effective and fit-for-purpose.
- Preside over Board meetings, ensuring discussions are focused and productive.
- Scrutinise performance and decisions taken by the board and sub committees to meet agreed targets, monitoring, assessing and reducing any potential risks.
- Act as an ambassador, representing Lacrosse Scotland’s interests to all stakeholders.
- Set the tone for ethical behaviour, integrity and professionalism within the Board and organisation by upholding a culture of open communication and collaboration.
- Lead the identification and development of potential sponsorship and business opportunities.
- Liaise with the Finance Director to ensure that funds are spent properly and in the best interests of the sport.
- Help to prepare and submit any statutory documents that are required including annual reports and audits.
- Take responsibility for the appraisal process and ongoing professional development for Lacrosse Scotland staff.
- Promote all areas of Lacrosse supported by the Board.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of governance at either Board or executive level (ideal).
- Experience of, or empathy with, companies working in the Volunteer Sector.
- Corporate and political networking and relationship building.
Skills
- Ability to further the governance of the company and Board.
- Support in providing direction, leadership and a strategic vision.
- Diplomacy with good ambassadorial skills.
- An excellent communicator, both written and verbal with an ability to negotiate and influence
- Be comfortable addressing and dealing with the media.
- Comply with all Lacrosse Scotland policies and procedures along with legal, ethical and social guidelines, ensuring that appropriate governance is adhered to.
