After 6 years with the Scotland Women’s National Lacrosse Squad, Head Coach Dave Simpson has announced that he will be leaving the program at the end of the season to accept a new position as Head Coach for the New Zealand National Women’s Lacrosse Squad.
Coach Simpson will continue uninterrupted in his role as Scotland Head Coach through to the end of the European Championships which take place in Israel this July. He commented, “It’s bittersweet to be leaving the Scotland program where we’ve had good success, predict continued success going forward, and where I have so many fulfilling relationships, but the move to New Zealand represents an important career opportunity for me, and one in which I will have more exposure and involvement in player development, a big passion of mine. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Scotland and am 100% committed and excited to carry on preparing the Scotland Women’s Squad as we work towards success at the Europeans this summer”.
Emily Knight, Women’s Performance Director for Lacrosse Scotland, commented, “On behalf of the Women’s Squad past and present and Lacrosse Scotland as a whole, I would like to thank Coach Dave for his 6 years of service leading the Scotland Women’s Squad to a Bronze Medal in the 2015 European Championships and a rise to #5 in world rankings at the 2017 World Championships, the highest ranking that Scotland have held in 24 years. Dave has dedicated a huge amount of time, energy and passion into the women’s programme, wider development within Scotland from grassroots through to elite performance and to Lacrosse Scotland in its entirety. He has gone over and beyond for the sport, has achieved huge success and has built a high performing programme that is going from strength to strength. Dave has been a pleasure to work with on and off the pitch and will be sorely missed by us all but we are delighted for him and wish him all the best in this exciting new role and next chapter. I know that he is going to give us his best effort and focus through Europeans and would like to wish him and the squad all the best for the upcoming championships”.
