Lacrosse Senior Home Internationals 2011

The Scotland women’s national lacrosse squads had an extremely successful weekend at the Senior Home Internationals which took place at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls in Wales this weekend. Scotland was represented by the Senior Squad who participated in the A team tournament and the U19 Junior Squad who participated in the B team tournament in preparation for the U19 World Championship which takes place in Germany this summer.

The Senior Squad had a fantastic weekend and came 2nd overall, beating Wales in a nail biting match 11-10 to bring home the Robertson Trophy.

Whilst they were unable to secure a win against England, the team had some excellent play throughout the match, maintaining the majority of possession in attack for the first 20 minutes, with some brilliant defensive play throughout the game putting England under pressure and making them work for every goal.

Off the back of an extremely successful tour to the USA, the Junior U19 Squad came to the tournament on a high, ready to take on the senior B teams from England, Ireland and Wales. They performed brilliantly, narrowly losing to England 9-8 and drawing with Wales 10-10 in two extremely closely fought matches. Convincingly beating Ireland in their final match it was an extremely positive weekend for the team and a fantastic learning experience for the junior players who not only competed with, but outwitted their senior opponents continuously.

Special mention must go to the players who were nominated for awards: Jodie Rayner, Ellie Bygroves, Kat Swallow and Tashy Rodgers who were nominated for U24 Player of the Tournament and Julia Rennie, Suzie Clark and Emily Knight who were nominated for Player of the Tournament.
