The U19 World Championship squad is busy organising the final fundraising push in preparation for Germany. The goal is £5,000. The actions taken so far have included plant sales, marmalade sales, writing to companies, applying for a grant from the Edinburgh Airport, writing to LS members and clubs to seek donations among many more individual efforts.
One of our players has taken the initiative to sign the squad up for an “easyfundraising” account which works like this: easy fundraising is a site that gives a donation to our cause every time one of our supporters shops online at one of the many listed retailers, including Amazon, Apple and Tesco online, to name just a few. If you buy things from these sites through the links easyfundraising.com, a certain percentage of your purchase will be donated.
Check it out at this link http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/scotlandu19lacrosse.
Another part of the site is http://scotlandu19lacrosse.easysearch.org.uk this is a search engine, similar to google, but every time you make a search you generate a small donation for Scotland lacrosse.
The Junior Women’s Squad has been very busy preparing for the Under 19 World Championships in Germany in August. This year we are running A & B teams at Under 19 level: the standard is improving due to increased training and a great deal of dedication by the players. The B team will have a chance to play in the U-17 Ken Galluccio Memorial Festival alongside the World Championships in Hannover.
The final selection weekend was in February and since then the formation and preparation of the team has been going exceptionally well. The squad participated in the Junior Home Internationals in March, took a preparation and performance tour to Maryland, USA and immediately followed this by playing the B tournament for the Senior Home Internationals. The buzz following this tournament was palpable: the juniors succeeded in drawing the Welsh 10-10, narrowly losing to the English 8-9 and finished with a convincing win over Ireland.
The cost to each girl in the A squad for the World Championships is £3,200 with probably another £600 spent on training weekends this season. All the girls are either still at school or in their first year at University and as such entirely reliant on parental support. We have not been successful in finding sponsors and we aim to raise £5000 more before the tournament.
As members of Lacrosse Scotland, we are asking if you would consider donating to their World Championship Fund. Additionally if you know of any businesses that would be interested in corporate sponsorship, we would love to hear from them. Cheques can be made out to Lacrosse Scotland and sent to the U19 Manager: Mrs. P A Davey, at the address below. If you have any questions please email Emily Bryson at ecbryson@gmail.com .
Many thanks for your continued support; we look forward to updating the website as we continue our preparation and competition.
