Scotland’s new Emeritus Umpire
By AndyP | November 10, 2011
Congratulations are extended to Lorna Powell, who has been honoured as a FIL Emeritus Umpire.
Lorna commenced her lacrosse career at school in the early 1970’s. In 1982, Lorna played in the first World Cup in England and continued representing Scotland as a player in 1993 and 1997 (Captain and Assistant Coach) and as Head Coach in 2001. At the same time as she was playing, Lorna started officiating and attended her first world event as a umpire at the 1995 U19 Women’s World Championship. She has had the honour of officiating at every U19 World Championship since that time (99, 03, 07, 11) – and in 2005, officiated at her first World Cup. Lorna completed the full cycle in 2009, when she was a Technical Delegate at the 8th World Cup. In an illustrious lacrosse career, Lorna Powell has represented Scotland in every capacity at the world level – player, coach and official.
At the local level, Lorna continues to organise women’s officiating in Scotland as the Rules and Umpiring Chair. She delivers training at a range of levels and established the http://www.laxrules.co.uk/ website. Since the early 90′s, Lorna has officiated at the annual Home Internationals (unless playing or coaching). Lorna received the Barclays Award for volunteering effort, and has played an active role in the Lacrosse Scotland (formerly Scottish Lacrosse Association) organisation for many years.
Lorna’s contribution to lacrosse, both on and off the field is second to none, and it is with pleasure that FIL has recently recognised her with an Emeritus Umpire award. Congratulations Lorna, an outstanding achievement.

In the Under 19 World Championships Scotland played with their hearts to beat Japan 21-18 in Overtime causing the tournament’s biggest upset to date!
Scotland fought back from a 3 goal deficit at the end of the 2nd half to level the score and take the game into 2, 3 minute halfs of Overtime. In front of an ecstatic, noisy and enthusiastic support they scored three unanswered goals, holding on to their lead until the final whistle !
Tomorrow they take on Wales at 09:30 and the whole of Scottish Lacrosse will be rooting for them.

Day 5 of the U19 Women’s World Championships
By AndyP | August 8, 2011
The Under 19 team had some of us over here worried when the half-time score was reported as Scotland 7 New Zealand 6 !
Whatever happened at half-time Scotland managed to add 10 more goals with only 2 in reply to end with a comfortable scoreline of 17-8.
Rest day today, 8 August, then most likely a tougher game tomorrow against the Czech Republic.
