Message from Jane Claydon: Insurance and Board positions
By Jemima | August 6, 2009
INSURANCE
At the AGM in May 2009 I said that Lacrosse Scotland urgently needed someone, with a background in insurance, to take on the responsibility of making sure that appropriate insurance is in place for members of Lacrosse Scotland.
To date no one has offered to take on this role. Being responsible for the insurance for members of Lacrosse Scotland would not be a Lacrosse Scotland Board role, it would not necessitate attending meetings and I do not think it would take up a huge amount of anyone’s time, if the person concerned had the necessary background in insurance. It is a specialised subject. I trained as a teacher, other people on the Lacrosse Scotland Board have quite different training and other experience but none of us is an expert in insurance.
If your work is in insurance or if you have a friend/husband/wife/partner etc. who works in the insurance business we really do need your/their help. It is an important aspect of Lacrosse Scotland but at present there is apparently no one within the organisation who is able to make sure that we are providing the best possible cover for our members. Cover is in place but we urgently need someone who can use their expertise to make sure we are doing the very best we can for the members of Lacrosse Scotland.
VACANT BOARD POSITIONS
May I bring to your attention that Lacrosse Scotland is still without a Secretary and a Women’s Umpiring Representative? These posts have been vacant since the AGM in May. We cannot run an efficient organisation without these key positions being filled. At present I am doing the jobs of both President, Child Protection Officer and Secretary, which is far from ideal and not what I agreed to do when I stood for office as President in May 2008.
If you want Lacrosse Scotland to be in a position to flourish and be able to take lacrosse in Scotland forward please consider volunteering for one of these three important roles:
i/c Insurance for Lacrosse Scotland
Lacrosse Scotland Secretary
Lacrosse Scotland Women’s Rules and Umpiring Representative.
The role of Secretary might interest some one who has just left University and has, as yet, been unable to obtain a job or someone who has been made redundant and wishes to undertake some volunteer work for a National Governing Body to enhance their CV.
If these roles are not filled for the coming year my personal opinion is that Lacrosse Scotland may eventually cease to exist and if that were to be the case it would no longer be possible for players to participate in World Cups at any level, as there has to be a National Governing Body in place, overseeing both men and women, to enable national teams to enter a World Cup.
I think it important that all members of Lacrosse Scotland understand the importance of having a Board in place which can operate effectively and efficiently, rather than having existing committee members being forced into a situation where by they have to double/triple up roles and responsibilities.
Please let me know if you are willing to help in anyway.
