St. Leonards: the cradle of lacrosse.
The introduction of lacrosse at St. Leonards and the influence the school had on the development of the game elsewhere.
by Jane Claydon
114 pages and 35 illustrations.
Jane Claydon’s book traces the introduction of lacrosse at St. Leonards in 1890 and documents the evolution of the game for women from that date. She has made extensive use of original material and previously unpublished photographs and documents, including an account of the very first women’s game ever played.
As far as possible the author has used the original texts to tell their own story. All the sources have been carefully documented.
Jane Claydon has already received the following comments:
“A truly amazing collection of facts and photographs tracing the beginning of women’s lacrosse.” Feffie Barnhill. President of the Federation of International Lacrosse.
“It is beautifully written and presented – excellent use of photographs, reproduced letters and extracts to complement the text.”

“I have been completely fascinated by it.”
“This would be a great text for students taking A level P.E.”
