Senior European Championship & U19 World Championship Squad Trials

February 23rd & 24th, 2008
Peffermill University Sports Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland
Meeting & registration: 09.30

Information:
The weekend will consist of 3 training sessions on the Saturday, followed by 2 scrimmage games on the Sunday on both grass and artificial turf surfaces.

The Senior Squad’s session will be led by Head Coach, John M Kenney.

The U19 Squad’s session will be led by Head Coach, Brian Spaven.

The cost of the weekend will be £40 (£5 discount for Lacrosse Scotland members). There will be an option to purchase the exclusive numbered scrimmage vest, provided to each player, for a £10 fee at the end of the weekend.

The performances at this weekend will be assessed along with, or independently of, performances observed at the British Championships Tournament (3rd & 4th May, 2008) as deemed appropriate by the Head Coach and assigned Selectors.

Current ILF regulations stipulate that a minimum of 85% of the registered squad must be GB Passport holders, with a maximum of 15% non-passport holders eligible for inclusion upon satisfying other stipulated qualification criteria. Full selection criteria are available on the Lacrosse Scotland and Men’s Scotland Lacrosse websites.

Performance Group

Following the AGM Ollie Finlay has been working to put together a performance group that will advise on and discuss the changes in the Scotland men’s lacrosse program in the hope that an objectivity, transparency and professional approach will be apparent for all those playing the game in Scotland and for Scottish representative teams to see.

Olli Finlay

Played for Scotland since 1994 in both Box and Field squads
An active coach in the men’s and women’s games in Scotland
Is a physiotherapist and exercise physiologist working in elite sport (football, rugby, tennis, canoeing, swimming, winter sports)
Olli is Performance Development director and has put together the Performance Group to help maintain the momentum of progress of lacrosse in Scotland
Ali Hodgson

Played for Scotland between 1992 and 2002
An active member of Mellor’s development and coaching
Established the UK first Lacrosse Academy at Ridge College for 16-19 year olds and is Head of Sports Excellence in the Academy.
As Technical Director, Ali is coordinating the development of the men’s lacrosse coaching pathway
Bob Russell

CEO-in- Residence of Strathclyde University and special counsel to the Deputy Principle
Been involved with lacrosse since 1966 playing at all levels of school, collegiate and club lacrosse
Started coaching in Madison Youth Lacrosse in Madison in 1984
Now heavily involved in the lacrosse community both locally in Connecticut and on the national level
Currently President of the CONNECTICUT / NEW YORK YOUTH LACROSSE (CONNY) league that is currently the largest youth lacrosse league in the US serving over 5000 boys, from 3 rd grade to 8 th grade
Active as the special council to the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) which is the membership body for all the colligate men’s varsity coaches
Currently serves on the National training committee for all coaching certification for US LACROSSE the National governing body of the sport
Serves on the publication committee of LACROSSE MAGIZINE the official publication for US LACROSSE
In 2006 he was on the coaching staff of TEAM SCOTLAND that played in the World Championships in London Ontario and two of his son’s Matt and Kevin were on the playing roster
Currently the volunteer head coach for Connecticut’s select youth team that will represent the state this summer at the US LACROSSE national youth festival at UMASS
Bob is directing the financial aspect of the men’s lacrosse programme
Martin Clarke

Played for Scotland Lacrosse between 1992 and 2002
Managed the 2002 World Championship Squad and has assisted in the management of several other Scotland squads over the years
Is actively involved in the youth development and coaching at Heaton Mersey
Martin is advising on the Senior and U19 setup
Mark Hodkin

4 year degree out of UMBC whilst playing division 1 NCAA
Represented Scotland playing 1995 – 2005
Head coach England Under 19s 1989
Head coach Scotland on several occasions including European Championships 2005 Czech Republic
World Team – 1986
Is actively involved in the development programmes at Wilmslow after helping setup the club and the age group system there
Mark is assisting direct the player development pathways in men’s lacrosse in Scotland in addition to helping coach the 2008 U19 World Championship squad
Tim Hobbs

Managed both Hockey and Lacrosse (box and field) Teams from the minor level to national level
Helped formulate and implement the 2006 Team Canada (field) tryout / selection process and helped initiate the Team Canada preparation schedule for 2006
Worked with pro teams and manufacturers in the area of sponsorship, promotion, and equipment recommendations
Worked on behalf of the ILF to promote lacrosse internationally by having the world championship match broadcast to 80 countries
Tim is assisting in the strategic planning and implementing programs at all levels to develop men’s lacrosse players in Scotland and is keen to help work with Canadian teams in both box and field to host tournaments etc that developing players from Scotland can participate in
Paul Clarke

Played for Scotland Lacrosse between 1992 and 2006
Has been actively involved in the youth development and coaching at Heaton Mersey
Paul is advising on the Senior and U19 setup
Shawna Williams

Is moving in September to work at St George’s School Ascot, coaching women’s lacrosse for 3 years
Played lacrosse (box) since very young
Managed BC Selects and Stars Program (BC U19 Field Lax teams) from 2000- 2004
Trainer of BC Selects and Stars Program from 1999- 2004
Refereed several box provincial championships up to Jr B
Played women’s field since the age of 13 and have played in 3 Nationals.
Part of the Canadian Coaching Pool for the 2008 U-19 Canada Women’s Team
Been part of BC Lacrosse Field Directorate since the age of 17 and held positions such as Secretary, Women’s Field Chair, and head Women’s Umpire in BC.
Shawna is helping advise on the structure of the men’s age group programmes as they are developed
Being from Coquitlam (hosts for next year’s U-19 Worlds) and having worked with the City of Coquitlam (previous employer before coming to coach in England) she is assisting with the management of the U19 World Championship Squad and has contacts to aid pre-tournament training venues
Rob Wilson

Played for Scotland since 2002 in both Box and Field squads
Rob is helping direct the development of the Box Lacrosse game in Scotland
John Marr

Played for Scotland since 1992 in both Box and Field squads
John has a wide network of contacts in the game and his views on the game are widely respected
John could be considered a figure head for the Scottish game and is always a draw for the media in whichever country the national team play
John is advising on the senior set up
Craig Brown

Craig has represented both the national team and the Highlanders which is considered a valuable component of developing the Scottish game internationally
Craig is currently the Men’s Representative on the Lacrosse Scotland board and as such is the voice at the ILF conferences
Craig is advising on issues in the domestic club game
